This is an electrocoustic piece using a poem read by Louise Fryer

The recording of this poem was used as the sound source for the entire piece.

My approach was to take the poem and break it up into smaller sections and then play with the pacing of the words, ‘annotating’ them with sounds made from the reading but transformed using various techniques.

I chose to distort the voice in order to acknowledge the readers BBC World Service background.

The overall form reflects the sentiments in the text but only occasionally do the sounds tie up with the text. For the most part the sounds supply the atmosphere, the soundworld for the text to inhabit.
