Pendulum
Pendulum
Pendulum a 6 m pendulum hung from the roof of the chancel at St Mary’s on the Quay for the Curiosity Collective’s TIME SHOW. The ‘bob’ is a terracotta pot that has a stream of sand coming out of it and describes patterns on the floor. Inspired by Foucault’s Pendulum, which appears to rotate as the earth turns under it, in the end the initial conditions were too variable in this installation to observe this but by releasing the pendulum with deliberate lateral momentum as well as swing great patterns were made as the sand streamed out from the pot. A load of sand lasted around 15-20 minutes and complex patterns were made by refilling the pot and laying a further pattern over the first.
